Artist Statement

I feel that there is so much beauty and magic in the world that we often do not see. It is this beauty and magic that I seek to photograph in places of nature, history and ruin. Places that hold stories, both real and imagined. I love to wander around areas that are both familiar and unknown to me, with wonder and curiosity. My subjects are often past their prime and may have a sadness about them, but they are still beautiful. A beautiful sadness.

Lately I have been shooting mostly with a plastic Diana film camera, while exploring areas around the Hudson River and my home. I prefer to shoot on film because I think it has such a special quality and seems to see things in its own way. It can turn the mundane into magic and often adds an element to my photos that I may not have planned for or predicted. Happy accidents are welcome.
